I was asked to make a hat for a friend for his summer of fishing in Alaska and I was happy to oblige. He is someone who doesn't shy away from crazy so I decided to find a pattern that could be fun in the colors he picked. I was given blue and orange yarn (his favorite colors) to work with and I am interested to see how this turns out since the orange is pretty bright.

I did some research on the pattern and have read mixed reviews saying that the hat turned out very large even though the gauge matched. So at first I did a 2x2 rib to make it a bit smaller, but then remembered my friend has a pretty large head. So I started over and stuck with the 1x1 rib. If i was making this for myself I would probably have to do a lot of changes since my head is small. I have quite a few rows left of ribbing before I start on the color work.

I've had a crazy week at work so I haven't been able to get much done. The pattern calls for 13 more rounds of 1x1 rib before starting the fair isle pattern. I want to get it done this weekend, but I am not sure when I will get some time to fit it in.

Done! I can't wait to give it to my friend. It's so hard to get the true colors of the hat in a photo, but I love how it turned out!
